David C. Franklin

David Franklin was admitted to practice law in 1990. In 2001 he attended Georgetown Law School and achieved an advanced law degree in taxation (a master of laws degree, called an LL.M.) with honors. Since then, he has focused his practice in business, estate planning and taxation in both the planning/transactional and litigation aspects of these matters. David's tax degree and experience is a strong compliment to his business and estate planning practices because these areas often have important tax considerations. David's tax practice involves the research and resolution of a wide range of tax issues for his clients, other attorneys and accountants, and disputes before the IRS and the Federal and U.S. Tax Courts.

David's business and estate planning practices involve advising clients on the best choice of entity for their business; forming corporations and limited liability companies; preparing documents for these businesses such as bylaws, shareholder agreements, employment contracts, buy-sell agreements and sales and acquisitions of businesses; advising clients on tax efficient ways to structure their transactions; and preparing estate plans that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, living wills and business succession plans.

In the real estate and construction areas, David also regularly works with builders assisting with their building contracts and lien law, and he has formed multiple condominiums for developers. In addition, David regularly assists owners with home owner association matters and David serves on the board of the home owners association in the neighborhood in which he lives.

David has extensive family law experience and has worked in the bankruptcy and employment law fields. He has also successfully resolved or litigated disputes of a range of matters including construction disputes, contract disputes, estate disputes and disputes between businesses.

In addition to practicing law for 18 years, David has a broad work background having worked as a professional chemist, as a business owner in the oil and gas exploration business and as a consultant for Ernst & Young, LLP, in their international tax group.
